Faith like a child

Ken in Jimenez, Mexico with his friend, Miriam

Here's a clip from one of the services done by Eric, a friend of ours that Ken had gone on a missions trip with to Jimenez, Mexico. Eric is the founder of Eric Holmes Ministries and also a book titled "8 Great Wonders" (see my blog sidebar for the web link). There is something incredibly powerful about listening to children pray and ask the Lord to come into their life, even in another language. This is the service that was done for the children of the orphanage. Out of 43 orphans, about 20 received Christ as their savior. You can also read about and listen to his other podcasts at http://ericholmes.podbean.com.

I SO look forward to the day that I hear that Hannah has received the Lord into her life. Driving home with her even just the other evening, we started talking about Jesus. It was a lot different than other conversations we've had about Jesus in the past. I can only imagine how difficult it is to a 3 year old to grasp the concept of who Jesus is, who God is, and who the Holy Spirit is. Of course we keep telling her about it anyways. We talked about how mommy has Jesus living inside of her heart and that His friend called the Holy Spirit is there to help mommy do the right thing, and also to show me when I'm doing bad things. She then asked me how she can get Him in her heart too, and I told her "well sweetie whenever you are ready to do that, and you feel inside your heart that this is what you are supposed to do, then you can pray for Him to come into your heart too." I explained to her how to pray and tell Him we are sorry for what we have done wrong in life, and how we would like for Him to come into our life and be our best friend, and show us how to do the right things. I also explained to her that it's not something that you do just one day, but that Jesus wants us to take time everyday to talk to him so that we can get to know Him.

It was interesting how I had to really make my explanation of salvation as elementary as possible to explain to Hannah. I can only imagine how much Eric had to rely on the Holy Spirit to give him the words necessary to be able to explain to these orphans about the reality of a relationship with this God that wants to be our friend.

I think the same applies even in talking to our adult friends that don't have a relationship with Jesus. My prayer is that whether I'm explaining my relationship with Him to Hannah, a work friend, or one of the kids at church that I would fully rely on Him to give me just the right words to be able to fully communicate that to them, and that I don't try to "impress with the details".

Of course, as her mom, it would bless me so to be able to be the one that leads Hannah to the Lord. But my prayer for her is that the Lord will bring the right person and circumstance into her life that He can use to bring her to Him.

"People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them." Mark 10: 13-16
